Abstract

In a short-term module, preschool-aged twins, one with a profound hearing impairment, the other normally hearing, were introduced to LOGO using the Apple II Plus. The objectives of the project were to enhance the development of spatial visualization, to provide opportunities for problem solving and creative efforts, and to introduce an organized symbol system in addition to spoken language. The children experimented with turtle graphics by means of a key-stroking program written by Dr. Semmes. However, toward the end of the project, the children were using LOGO commands to accomplish their goals with the turtle graphics. A happy byproduct of the project was the tremendous enjoyment the children experienced during their "work" sessions.
