Two Poems

John Brehm

November

Look at them they've fallen and still
they fling themselves
shamelessly

joyously
across the grass - don't
they know they're no longer alive? [End Page 129]

Running Away with Me

My emotions are like sled dogs
it's a frozen tundra yes
we could die here

easily but there
they go - hot breath
rising in the bright snow glare.

John Brehm's poems have appeared in Poetry, the Southern Review, the Gettysburg Review, and Best American Poetry 1999.
