Lori Merish is Associate Professor of English at Georgetown University and author of Sentimental Materialism: Gender Commodity Culture, and Nineteenth-Century American Literature and Laboring Women and the Languages of Class (forthcoming).
Alex J. Beringer is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Montevallo. His current projects include a book on conspiracy thinking in 19th-century American literature and a study of graphic narratives in 19th-century humor magazines.
Beverly A. Hume is Professor of English and Linguistics at Indiana University–Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her work has appeared in American Literary Realism, Studies in American Fiction, Nineteenth-Century Fiction, Studies in Short Fiction and elsewhere.
Michael Barry is Associate Professor of English at University of Detroit Mercy. He studies American literature and also has an interest in hermeneutics and translation studies. He has taught at univesities in China and Turkey as well as in the U.S.
Cheryl A. Wall is Board of Governors Zora Neale Hurston Professor at Rutgers University and author of Worrying the Line: Black Women Writers, Lineage, and Literary Tradition and Women of the Harlem Renaissance.
Patrick F. Walter holds a Ph.D from SUNY-Buffalo. His intrests include late 20th- and 21st-century American fiction, popular culture and diasporic studies. He is currently working on a book on the political aesthetics of violence and a project on the South African Miners strikes.
Mitchum Huehls is the author of Qualified Hope: A Postmodern Politics of Time. The article here and one in Modern Fiction Studies are part of his current book project, After Critique: Neoliberalism and Twenty-First-Century Fiction. Previous work on Viramontes appeared in Discourse. [End Page 183]
