RMMLA-Huntington Award The RMMLA-Huntington Award Committee, consisting of Martin Ridge of the Huntington Library, Nancy Gutierez, Arizona State University, and Theodore J. Cachey, Jr., Arizona State University (committee chair), has awarded the $1,500 stipend to Professor Bruce W. Young, Brigham Young University, to work on his planned book, Shakespeare and Renaissance Family Life. Professor Young proposes to challenge prevailing views of Renaissance family life through contemporary critical approaches such as hermeneutics, gender studies, and the new historicism. His purpose is to understand the nature of family life as well as possible and to apply that understanding to interpretations of Shakespearean drama with particular attention to Romeo and Juliet, As You Like It, Hamlet, Coriolanus, King Lear, and The Winter's Tale. All members of the RMMLA are eligible for the RMMLA-Huntington Award for 1991, and we especially encourage younger scholars to apply. While the deadline is not until January 1, 1991, it is not too early to plan the time to work at the Huntington and then to prepare the application. Criteria for selection include value of the project, appropriateness of the research to material available at the Huntington, promise and experience of the researcher, and proposed use or distribution of the results. To apply, send five copies of a vita indicating prior research and publication plus a description of the project and any work completed on it, along with a letter indicating what Huntington materials would be used, the approximate dates of residence, and a statement agreeing that all funds received will be used for the purpose of research, and that, should the candidate be unable to use the funds, the RMMLA would be notified immediately.
