The editors of Cottonwood, a magazine of poetry and fiction, are soliciting contributions for their fall 1986 issue. In honor of the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of Kansas statehood, this issue will focus on the contribution of Black writers to contemporary literature, especially in Kansas and the Midwest. Deadline for submission for this issue is September 15, 1986. Cottonwood also publishes reviews and would be interested in receiving recent small press publications by Black authors or similar special issues of magazines. The Florida State University Comparative Literature and Film Circle invites submission of papers related to the theme of its twelfth annual conference, "Crosscurrents /Art, History, Politics: Literary and Cinematic Representation." Participants are also invited to organize seminars and workshops on related topics of special interest to them, in the field of literature or film, or in the relationship between literature and film. Papers are invited in all periods, styles, and genres of literature and film. Keynote speaker of the conference will be Fredric Jameson, William A. Lane Professor of Comparative Literature at Duke University; there will also be a presentation by filmmaker Les Blank. Abstracts of papers of approximately 300 words and proposals for seminars and workshops must be submitted by October 1, 1986, to Winnie Adolph, Director, Film and Literature Conference, Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306-1020. Each presentation will be strictly limited to 20 minutes. The University of Kansas Department of English will hold a conference on "Victoria's Jubilees, 1887 and 1897: A Centennial Reconsideration," March 26-28, 1987. Relevant papers, twenty minutes each, in English literature and such related disciplines as history, art history, music history, history of science, Irish studies, women's studies, intellectual history, social history, and popular culture are being solicited.
