This essay reviews Shakesqueer: A Queer Companion to the Complete Works of Shakespeare, edited by Madhavi Menon. While discussing many of the book’s impressive contributions to queer Shakespeare studies, the essay argues against casting Shakespeare as a queer theorist and embracing a purely negative definition of queerness.
