Dear Members of the Vernacular Architecture Forum,

As most of you now know the University of Minnesota Press has partnered with the JSTOR service the Current Scholarship Program (CSP) to provide Vernacular Architecture Forum members online access to your journal, Buildings & Landscapes.

The value of this is tremendous. Here are some of the benefits VAF members gain from this partnership:

  • • A benefit of membership in the VAF is access to Buildings & Landscapes on JSTOR's platform, regardless of whether you are part of an institution that chooses to subscribe to the journal.

  • • JSTOR has built a component for journals that includes "Supplemental Materials." Each article that we publish in Buildings & Landscapes can now have additional content, including color images, maps, photos, video, audio, and even 3-D images on the JSTOR platform for readers to access.

  • • Lastly, this platform includes digital preservation of Buildings & Landscapes with Portico, a service that continually upgrades the format the content (type of digital file) and the platform on which the content is stored so that it will be machine/computer readable in the future. As you probably know, making content digital does not mean it will be accessible in the future, as computers and software evolve. We also need to continually migrate the content into formats readable by that hardware and software. It's a tremendous undertaking, and it's wonderful to have such a reliable and trustworthy partner like Portico.

The University of Minnesota Press in partnership JSTOR is pleased to bring you this new form of access to Buildings & Landscapes.

Kind Regards,
Susan Doerr
