After that we hope to be moving to two general issues a year, though we will continue to include both special issues, and special clusters of essays in general issues. We welcome submissions and suggestions for possible special issues.

Possible future topics include:

Beyond the Book: Children and Technology
Children, Television, and Video Games
Victorian Illustrators
Comics and Children's Literature
The Publishing Industry and Children's Literature Series Books
Fantasy Literature. Magic Renewed: Children's Fantasy Since 1980

As of the spring of 2005, we will also be adding an annual poetry feature. The centerpiece will be a long essay on the year's work in poetry published for children in North America in 2004. It will be modeled on the Signal poetry award essays which appeared from 1979-2001 in the British journal Signal (which ceased publication in August 2003). The first The Lion and the Unicorn award will be given at Simmons College in Boston in the summer of 2005. The first judges are Richard Flynn, professor, Georgia Southern University; Kelly Hager, assistant professor, Simmons College; and Joseph Thomas, assistant professor, California State University at Northridge.
