Contributors Robert D. Aguirre, who received his Ph.D. from Harvard, teaches in the English Department at Wayne State University in Detroit. Recent articles on Victorian autobiography and nineteenth-century panoramas have appeared, respectively, in Genre 35.1 (2002) and Biography 25.4 (2002). Imperial Objects: Mexico and CentralAmerica in Victorian Culture is forthcoming from the University of Minnesota Press in Fall 2004. Mary Gould is a doctoral student in the Department of English at the University of Iowa. His dissertation project, "Role Britannia: Theatricality and Empire in the Nineteenth Century," investigates how Victorian spectacular entertainments, including dramas, panoramas, museums, and exhibitions, used image and action to express both the ideologies that drove the imperial project and the criticisms raised against Britain's imperial ambitions. Mary Ellen Kappler is a graduate student at the University of Toronto. She is currently writing a doctoral thesis on representations of urban poverty in late-Victorian fiction. Christopher Kent is a Professor of History at the University of Saskatchewan and Editor of The CanadianJournalof History/Annales canadiennes d'histoire. He is currently completing a book on clubs, gender and sociability in West End London, 1815-1914, and beginning a study of gentiemen and tailors 1840-1914. Joe McLaughlin is an associate professor of English at Ohio University in Athens, OH. His book, Writing the UrbanJungle: Reading Empire in Undon from Doyle to Eliot, was published by the University Press of Virginia in 2000. He is currently working on a book-length study of Victorian representations of Japan. Michael Rupert Taylor's doctorate from London University was based upon narratives written by his students at a College for Further Education. Since then he has been studying popular fiction for young people in the nineteenth century, especially boys. Papers on aspects of this area of study have been given at conferences run by such organisations as the British Association of Victorian Studies, the Research Society for Victorian Victorian Review (2003)1 1 1 Contributors Periodicals, Dust and Monuments and the Children's Book History Society Together with Robert |.
