EDITOR'S NOTE This issue is the first in an "interrupted" series ofspecial issues of Victorian Review aimed at fostering interdisciplinary work in 19thC culture. Forthcoming numbers include special issues on "19thCVisual Culture" and "The Cultural Work of (Auto)biography," as well as numbers bringing together excellent essays and reviews on a range of topics and books ofinterest. I look forward to hearingyour suggestions for special issues, review forums, and review articles on areas ofcritical interest, and other ways that our journal might broaden its scope of inquirywhilstretainingits primaryfocus onVictorian culture. As always, Victorian Reviewwelcomes your submissions. Victorian Review is in the midst ofa programme ofplanned and necessary expansion. To keep the journal strong, our goal is to increase circulation, especially through institutional subscriptions.
