212Victorian Review An international conference on "Dickens, Empire, and Children" will be held in Grahamstown, South Africa, from 2 to 5 September 1996 on the Rhodes University campus. Registration on Monday morning — lectures and panels thereafter until Thursday evening. Chaos, Death, and Madness: The Use of the Disruptive in Literature and the Arts is the theme of the 5th Annual Conference on Language and Literature, at Baylor University, 12-13 April 1996. The plenary speakers are Dr. Katherine Hayles, Department of English, UCLA and Dr. Melissa Dowling, Department of History, SMU. We invite papers to be submitted for consideration in all areas of Literature and the Arts. However, we are particularly interested in papers dealing with disruption. Please send a one to two-page abstract along with your paper by 12 February 1996. Detailed abstracts without papers will be considered, but if they are accepted, the completed papers are due by 28 March 1996.
