CONTWBUTORS Jerry Root is an Associate Professor of French and Comparative Literature at the University ofUtah. His main research and teaching interests focus on the medieval period, more particularly on French and English literature from the 12th through the 14th centuries. He has worked at length on medieval confessional practice and its importance and influence on literature. Nicole A. Diederich is an Associate Professor ofEnglish at the University ofFindlay in Findlay, Ohio, where she teaches British literature and composition , and serves as director ofthewriting center. She received her doctorate in English from Washington State University in 1997. Carolyn Kendrick received an MA from the University ofWisconsinMadison in Luso-Brazilian literature in 2002. She currently is pursing a PhD at the University ofCalifornia-Los Angeles in twentieth-century Brazilian literature. Her area ofspecialization is contemporary Brazilian women writers, but she is interested in exploring the works ofwomen writers of other Portuguese speaking countries as well. She previously published an article on anotherwork ofAgustina Bessa Luis. Collin Hughes is a Senior Instructor of English at Washington State University, teaching primarily in the Honors College and in the Humanities. He received his MA in English Literature from the University ofIdaho in 1989. He is Associate Coordinator for the CO-TEACH grant (Collaboration forTeacher Education Accountable to Children with High needs). His recent summer fieldwork as a biological technician in Idaho's wilderness has allowed him to study the interrelationships between literature and die natural sciences.
