Announcements Principal consultants for the 1982 Wyoming Conference on Freshman and Sophomore English, to be held in Laramie June 28 - July 2, are Linda Flower, Carnegie-Mellon University; J. (Deadline for submissions is May 1, 1982.) A North American Heine Society has been formed and you are invited to join. The purpose of the new society is to encourage Heine scholarship, bring about communication among Heine scholars and to disseminate information. The Society will hold an annual meeting during the MLA Convention and will publish an annual newsletter in the fall. Through affiliation with the Heinrich Heine Gesellschaß and the Heine Institute in Düsseldorf, members will also receive the Heine Jahrbuch published by the Heine Institute. Annual dues of 10 Dollars cover membership in the North American Heine Society and affiliated membership in the Düsseldorf Heine Gesellschaft; they also entitle members to receipt of Newsletter and Jahrbuch. Those who join before December 31, will receive the 1981 Jahrbuch and the 1981 Newsletter. The two cooperating societies have made possible an arrangement whereby present members of the Gesellschaft can be members of both societies as of January 1, 1982. James Mellard, chairman of the department of English at Northern Illinois University in De KaIb, will host the Midwest regional seminar from 10 to 13 June; Charles G. Davis, chairman of the department of English at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, will host the West Coast regional seminar from 24 to 27 June; and Merrill D. Whitburn, chairman of 76ROCKY MOUNTAIN REVIEW the department of Language, Literature, and Communication at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, will host the East Coast regional seminar from 8 to 11 July. For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Northern Iowa is planning its programs in France for teachers of French. Our regular program from June 19 to August 8, 1982, will be held in Angers and in Quimper for 8 semester hours of graduate credit. Our 5-week session, from June 19 to July 24, 1982 (for teachers who are unable to attend our regular session), will be held in Angers for 6 hours of graduate credit. The Institute program is designed for those teachers: 1) who need intensive training in understanding and speaking French; and 2) who do not wish to see France as tourists, but who would like to live among the French people and make personal contacts with French families in a French community, who want to meet teachers, students , senior citizens, policemen, housewives, social workers, political and union leaders, etc. Following the five weeks in Angers, where each participant will study and live with a French family, the group will have a chance to study in depth a specific province of France — this year: La Bretagne (July 24-August 8, 1982). October 7-9, 1982 The Sixth Annual Meeting of the Western Association for German Studies will be held in El Paso, Texas. The University of Texas at El Paso will host the conference.
