Notes from the Executive Director RMMLA ELECTION Elizabeth Holtze of Metropolitan State University, Denver, Colorado, local arrangements chair for the 1993 convention, has been elected Vice-President following a tied election. As a result ofthe tie, both candidates were declared elected, and the Board was expanded to seven members during the next three years. Since the organization can have only one Vice-President, the Board was polled to break the tie. New Delegates serving on the Board are Arthur Coffin ofMontana State University and James T. Svendsen ofthe University ofUtah. Leaving the Board are Theodore Cachey, Jr. formerly of Arizona State University and now from the University of Notre Dame, and Barbara Olds of the Colorado School of Mines. Both Board members have served with distinction and will be missed. DEPARTMENTAL MEMBERSHIPS At the October 1991 meeting of the Executive Board, the Board decided to establish a new category of Departmental Membership. A departmental membership will be issued in the name of a department, though it could be shared by more than one; all mailings will be sent to the address specified by the entity ordering the membership. Departmental memberships will provide a means for departments to encourage faculty participation in the professional activities available through the RMMLA; they will provide a means oforganizational support for the RMMLA. The Call for Papers and the Review will be sent to departments. Through such a membership, departments may obtain detailed information about submitting to the Review, presenting papers at the convention, proposing special sessions for the convention, or applying for the $1,800 RMMLA-Huntington Research Award and for the $1,000 RMMLA-Mellen Book Award. Individuals who do so participate, of course, must become members. Information about a departmental membership may be obtained from Charles G. Davis, Executive Director, RMMLA, L-206, Boise State University, Boise, Idaho 83725; telephone: (208) 385-1199. Charles G. Davis ...
