It is with deep regret that we inform our readers of the loss of our esteemed colleague Harold G. Marcus. Michigan State University's African Studies Center and Michigan State University Press wish to ensure Northeast African Studies readers that the journalwill continue his legacy of outstanding scholarship in both history and African studies. Professor Marcus founded the journal in 1979 and edited it for twenty-two years. We intend to carry on with the level of energy, intellect, and scholarly integrity that Professor Marcus brought to his role to continue this journal as a lively nexus for the study of Northeast Africa.

A Transitional Editorial Team comprised of the journal's associate editors will ensure that all manuscripts received are processed, assembled for publication, or returned with comment to their authors. The Editorial Team will build upon a collection of journal issues assembled by Professor Marcus that are currently in production at the Michigan State University Press. We continue to welcome manuscript submissions and proposals for thematic issues.

As an historian, it has been an honor to work with Harold Marcus for the past twelve years to build the reputation of Northeast African Studies. Although we must carry on without him, it is our aim to continue his important work on the Horn of Africa in a way that will honor his memory.
