Editors' Note

Readers may notice a change in this issue's "News and Events" section: it's much shorter than usual. In future issues, it will continue to appear in this leaner form. The reason for the change: the Editors believe that the old "News and Events" has outlived its usefulness--and members of our Advisory Editorial Board agree.

When the Bulletin began publication, more than seventy years ago, it served as an important repository of information about doings in the field. Now, however, Association members can turn to the Internet and the AAHM's NewsLetter for up-to-date notices of conferences and lectures. With all this information available from other sources, we can put the thirty pages spent each year on "News and Events" to better use--by including another article or another dozen book reviews in each volume.

The Editors don't plan to eliminate the news section entirely. We will continue to print news from and about the AAHM: the minutes and program of the annual meeting; the call for papers and for submissions for the Osler, Shryock, Pressman, and Estes awards; information about local arrangements for the annual meeting; the list of committee chairs. In this way, the Bulletin will continue to enhance the Association's sense of community, while still offering readers the scholarship we hope they've come to depend on.
