THE CONTRIBUTORS dennis a . foster is Associate Professor of English at Southern Methodist University. He has written Confession and Complicity in Narrative (Cambridge 1987) and several essays, most recently 'Alphabetic Pleasures: The Names," on Don DeLiIIo. He is currently writing "Too Resurgent': The Liquidity of the Feminine in The Aspern Papers ," which he hopes will join "Re-Poe Man" in a book on the perverse dimensions of American literature. Leonard neufeldt recently published The Economist: Henry Thoreau and Enterprise (Oxford), and is currently completing a book entitled Thoreau and the American Literary Profession. His next volume of poems, Raspberrying, is about to appear. STACEY vallas is working on a disseration entitled, Embodying the Unspeakable in Melville, Hawthorne, and Davis. john t. Irwin is Decker Professor in Humanities and Chairman of The Writing Seminars at The Johns Hopkins University. He is currently at work on studies of Hart Crane and F. Scott Fitzgerald, and is revising a thousand-page typescript on Poe, Borges, and the detective story. meredith L. McGiLL is currently completing a dissertation entitled, Poe's Plagiarisms: Literary Property and the Authorial Self in Ante-Bellum America. ...
