THE CONTRIBUTORS IAN Frederick finseth is a lecturer in American literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has published articles on David Walker, Hannah Webster Foster, and Charles Chesnutt , and is presently working on a book-length study of the uses of natural history and natural philosophy in American and African American antislavery literature. JOHN Carlos rowe is Professor of English at the University of California , Irvine, where he teaches the cultures of the United States and critical theory. He is author of many books and articles addressing issues in American Studies. paúl a. bové is Professor of English at the Univetsity of Pittsburgh, author of studies on American literary criticism and theory, and editor of boundary 2. jean marie lutes is Assistant Professor at Manhattan College, where she teaches American literature. She is currently wotking on a study of women journalists and realist fiction in late nineteenthand early twentieth-century America. anna krugovoy silver is Assistant Professor of English and Interdisciplinary Studies and Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at Mercer University. Her book on Victorian literature and anorexia nervosa is forthcoming. jóse f. aranda, jr., is Associate Professor of Chicano/a and American literature.
