Contributors Betty Stuart Baird is a Kentucky native who spent most of her childhood in the West Virginia coal camps. Her short story, "A Time and a Time" was one of the winners in the Appalachian Writers Association contest this summer. Garry Barker lives in Berea, Kentucky, and is consultant/juror/lecturer and free-lance writer of both technical and creative materials. Mary Ann Barnett teaches school in Dillingham, Arkansas. Harold Branam is an English professor and a free-lance writer. Connie Brosi, a Berea, Kentucky, housewife, has seven children whose ages range from four to fifteen years. Nickell Ceraldi, a Berea College graduate, lives in Salisbury, North Carolina. Carol Collier is currently book review editor for a North Carolina newspaper. Charles Darling, an English Professor at Greater Hartford Community College in Tolland, Connecticut, is also a free-lance writer. Marion J. Darracott, Chief of Detectives on the Gainesville Police Force in Gainesville, Georgia, has written poetry since high school days, but only recently decided to send some of it out to publishers. This is his first time in print. Harry Dean grew up in the hills of North Georgia. His poetry has been published in regional magazines. John Ferguson is a truck driver and a professional storyteller from Sonora, Kentucky. He has given workshops and performances from Florida to Ohio and west into Texas. Tom Frazier, an Evarts, Kentucky, native, is a professor at Cumberland College in Williamsburg , Kentucky. He has been published in regional publications. Jonas Hollon lives in Flatwoods, Kentucky, near Ashland. He is a retired high school teacher and creative writer. Jerome Hughes, Emeritus Professor of English at Berea College, has written and directed plays. His story is from a collection of works in progress. Mike Ivey currently resides in Corvallis, Oregon. "Grandpa's Roots" was submitted while he lived in West Virginia. 79 Loyal Jones is the author of numerous scholarly articles and books, and co-author of a book on Appalachian humor. Nancy Carol Joyner is a Professor of English at Western Carolina University. She is especially interested in research on Appalachian women. John Frazier King, Western Pennsylvania native, is the Forest Activities Coordinator for Berea College. w Walter Lane lives within mailing distance of Raccoon, Kentucky. This is his second appearance in Appalachian Heritage. Gretchen McCroskey, a high school teacher in Bristol, Virginia, is a published poet. Glenn McKee, an Ohio native who currently lives in Maine, has been published in the New York Times and the Herald Tribune. Irene McKinney recently returned to live in West Virginia. She is the author of two books of poetry. Jim Wayne Miller is the author of six books of poetry, and a lecturer and workshop leader. Phyllis J. Moore lives in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She has won three writing contest prizes in the past two years. Ron Rash is the 1987 winner of the General Electric Award for Younger Writers and has poems now appearing in literary quarterlies. He lives in Pendleton, South Carolina. Dorothy Moseley Sutton was a winner of one of the prizes in the poetry division of the Appalachian Writers Association contest last summer. Jamie Griggs Tevis is a Madison County, Kentucky, native now living in Athens, Ohio. Syd Weedon currently lives in Whitesburg, Kentucky.
