This Side of the Mountain by Sidney Saylor Farr This issue of Appalachian Heritage is dedicatedto all Appalachian women— wherever they are located. As you will see, most of the work has been done by women. We are not one hundred percent female here, however, because George Brosi has his "New Appalachian Books" section included as a regular feature, Berea College President John Stephenson has written about the significance of this issue and Michael Thompson had two illustrations that seemed best suited to a couple of pieces. This issue is different in another aspect also. Early this year the Publication Board Members had to wrestle with the problem ofrapidly increasing production costs. Those costs had to be curtailed in some manner while we at the same time maintained as much as possible the quality in appearance and content we all have grown accustomed to over the years. We are happy with the contents and know you will like the fine work represented here, but we do want to ask that you overlook any typos or technical mistakes we may have let get past us. The College Press collated and stapled the pages, thus eliminating the high cost of sending the contents off campus for perfect binding. The total production is now being done right on campus. My assistant, Donna Lakes, has been marvelous in learning to use the new equipment. I want to publicly thank her for all the hard work and especially for her patience in working with an editor who is not skilled in operating computers and such other strange objects. Thanks, Donna, for helping to make this issue special indeed. ...
