Samuel Archivolti and the Antiquity of the Hebrew Pointing

The debate over the antiquity of the Hebrew vowel points raged among both Jewish and Christian Hebraists in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Among Jewish grammarians, Samuel Archivolti was one of the earliest critics of the revolutionary ideas of Elijah Levita. Yet Archivolti's work, while not wholly forgotten, has remained largely inaccessible to modern scholars working in this field. Presented here for the first time in English, along with annotations, is Archivolti's treatise on the topic, a critical text for understanding one side of this debate.
