The persons noted below are largely those listed in the dictionaries and encyclopedias cited following the double bar (||). Note that variant information is given following the initial report of death without any attempt to resolve the conflict; this applies to the 2002 portion as well as to the 2001 supplement. "Online" has been added to citations when needed to distinguish the Web site from the print version of the publication.
