Birdsall The University of North Carolina The 1995 Honors Committee of the Southeastern Division, Association of American Geographers, on behalf of the members, is very proud to present its 1995 Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor Stephen S. Birdsall, Department of Geography and Dean, College of Arts and Sciences at the University ofNorth Carolina, Chapel Hill. Steve's accomplishments in the discipline, the Division, and the Association ofAmerican Geographers are many; they extend nearly three decades and include important elective offices. Among the positions he has held in the Division include Editor, Southeastern Geographer; SEDAAG Regional Councillor to the AAG; Vice President and Program Chair; Chair of the Honors Committee; and President. Steve has been equally active within the AAG; his long list of significant positions include Commission on Geography and AfroAmerica ; Publications Committee; National Councillor; Treasurer and Chair, Finance Committee; Executive Committee; Endowment Committee. In 1993 he was elected vice-president and 1994 President of the AAG. All those who know Steve respect him for his tireless efforts in North Carolina as well as in his university, SEDAAG, and AAG to strengthen geography in whatever position he holds. The quality of Steve's contributions is evident in his willingness to work with authors, students, and colleagues, to foster a spirit offairness and cooperation in committee meetings, and to enhance the discipline's standing in colleges and universities throughout the United States. Although the Southeastern Division of the AAG has already bestowed on him its Distinguished Service Award and Lifetime Membership, we are especially proud to award him today the Lifetime Achievement Award. We are all proud of you, Steve, and wish you continued successes in the future. DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD Janet E. Kodras The Florida State University The 1995 Honors Committee of the Southeastern Division, Association of American Geographers, on behalfofits members, is very proud to present its 1995 Outstanding Service Award to Janet E. Kodras of the Department of Geography, Florida State University. This award is given to those who have a solid record of dedicated and quality service to the Division, the AAG, and the discipline. Jan's record is exemplary. Among her accomplishments to the Division are serving as Chair of the Honors Committee (1993), Committee on the Status of Women in Geography (Co-Chair, 1987-1990), Committee on Geography in Education, and Representative of the State of Florida, Steering Committee of SEDAAG. Her list of service to the AAG also is outstanding. She was SEDAAG's Regional Councillor to the AAG (1992-1995) and AAG Secretary (1993-1995). Jan also was active on the Committee on the Status ofWomen in Geography, the Committee on Committees, Human Resources Committee, and the Committee on Geographic Education at the Collegiate Level. The Political Geography Specialty Group members also are aware of her many efforts; these include Chair of the group (1991-1993), co-organizer of a very successful conference on Global Political Change (1991), secretary-treasurer (1989-1991), and the Board ofDirectors (1986-1987). Most frequently, Jan is the coordinator ofthe Geographers Network on Politics in America, a group designed to increase the visibility and contributions of geographers in the public arena. Added to this list of disciplinary service are her selection as a member of the Advisory Panel of the Geography and Regional Science Program at the National Foundation (1993-1995) and her recent appointments as an editorial board member of Social Science Quarterly and Political Geography. Jan's record of service extends as well to the many departmental , college, and university committees at Florida State University.
