Migratory

If no one; if nothing; if not me; if burning; if wing; if organ

(failing); eyes: mouths. Vise.

If trap knows teeth. If nerve knows cruel. If heart knows blood. If water tongues fire.

Hiss of water. If hand kneads fire. If instinct (:desire). If seasonal, flower. If I the liar. [End Page 97]

I the liar. If God's lips glazed with pollen's praise.

If flight is ache is palm frond's wince in salt and wind.

If whale, fin and foam, wave and spray.

If Man-O-War, promise sting.

If Monarch, splinter chrysalis into rein.

Under C

Nix, your potion whittled me to boy again. My grey hair crumbled into ash and windScattered it. My blue eyes swallowed the stoneOf your face as if skipped across the oceanWaves. You, octopus: promising tangleAnd moan. Then skate, gliding through violence,Shadow flat, phantom feeder where weeds strangleAnd creatures unseen breed in liquid silenceAnd what's hidden sleeps in silt's smoky swirl. Then eel, bipolar, undulatingFrown and smile. Then merman, glint of scaleAnd brined skin magically culminatingIn tail. Let wave rinse my body of your dust,Spiral toward dark so deep bones brittle with rust. [End Page 98]
