CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS ISSUE James P. McClure, an associate editor with the Papers of Thomas Jefferson at Princeton University, was on the editorial staffofthe Salmon P. Chase Papers from 1984 to 1996. Leigh Johnsen holds a doctorate in American history from the University ofCalifornia at Riverside. He has edited the papers ofIsaac Backus in microfilm and is currently senior associate editor of the Salmon P. Chase Papers at The Claremont Graduate University. Kathleen Norman is a Ph.D. candidate in American history at The Claremont Graduate University and editorial assistant for the Salmon P. Chase Papers. She earned her B.A. from Hampshire College in 1992. Michael Vanderlan, a research assistant with the Salmon P. Chase Papers , is a Ph.D. candidate in American studies atThe Claremont Graduate University. Bruce AIlardice, a Civil War historian who resides in Des Plaines, Illinois , is the author of More Generals in Gray (1995).
