CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS ISSUE Gary W. Gallagher is a member of the Department of History at Pennsylvania State University whose recent publications include Fightingfor the Confederacy: The Personal Recollections of General Edward Porter Alexander and Antietam: Essays on the 1862 Maryland Campaign. He is currently at work on a biography of Jubal A. Early. David L. Lightner teaches history at the University of Alberta. He is the author of Labor on the Illinois Central Railroad, as well as articles on Abraham Lincoln, the Panic of 1857, and other topics. Charles B. Strozier is professor of history and codirector of the Center on Violence and Human Survival, John Jay College, City University of New York. William L. Richter is currently working on a book on the Freedmen 's Bureau in Texas. ...
