CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS ISSUE Carol K. Bleser is professor of history at Colgate College and senior research fellow in the Institute for Southern Studies at the University of South Carolina. Frederick M. Heath is professor of history at Winthrop College. William Cohen teaches history at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He is currently working on a book dealing with black mobility after the Civil War. Robert J. Chandler, a San Francisco historical researcher, has published several articles on Civil War California. J. William Harris teaches in the history and literature concentration at Harvard University. His book on Augusta's hinterlands , Cfoss, Race, and Community in a Shve Society, will be published next spring by Wesleyan University Press. Gary Gallagher is the archivist at the Lyndon B.
