Barry Levy teaches history at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is the author of Quakers and the American Family: British Settlement in the Delaware Valley (1988) and Town Born: The Political Economy of New England from Its Founding to the Revolution (2009). The present comparative essay summarizes and extends his work on the political economies of the two colonies.
Timothy Olewniczak is a graduate student pursuing a New York State Teacher Certification in Social Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his M.A. in history in 2008 and B.A. in history and psychology in 2005 from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
