Warsaw as a Jewish City for Light Industry: A Solution to the "Problem" of Poland's Jews

In December 1939, Dr. Hermann Lufft composed a remarkable memorandum proposing that all of the Jews in occupied Poland be relocated to Warsaw and that the city be transformed into a modern city of light industry, complete with new housing, schools, and parks. While this proposal did not influence Nazi "Jewish" policy, it illustrates both the wide range of thinking at the time about the "problem" of the Jews and the willingness of German intellectuals to offer the Nazi regime their expertise and skills.
