MINUTES OF THE 1973 MEETING OF THE COMEDIANTES A luncheon meeting of the Comediantes was held on Thursday, December 27, 1973, at Stouffer's Restaurant, 24 West Madison, Chicago. In attendance were: Ion T. Agheana, William R. Blue, Virginia R. Craig, Nancy L. D'Antuono, Mary V. Devine, Donald T. Dietz, John Dowling, F. William Forbes, Arthur M. Fox, Ed Hopper, Carroll B. Johnson , Harold G. Jones III, John Lihani, John G. Morton, Edward Nagy, Jack H. Parker, Carmen S. Parr, James A. Parr, Walter Poesse, Gabriel Rosado, Charlotte Stern, Henry W. Sullivan, Richard W. Tyler, A. Julián Valbuena, Shirley B. Whitaker, Vern G. Williamsen , Ann E. Wiltrout, and Henryk Ziomek . Since service was slow in getting started, and because certain of those present had to leave early, business was transacted over cocktails while we waited for the food to materialize. Professor John Lihani, Chairman of Spanish 3 for 1973, welcomed the members . He then introduced Professor James A. Parr, Editor of the Bulletin, who was obliged to explain why the fall number did not reach subscribers before Christmas. Apparently the printer is largely to blame for the delay. Professor Karl C. Gregg, our Managing Editor, will be asked to insure that this problem does not arise again. The fall issue is to be mailed out hereafter on December 1. In Professor Gregg's absence, the financial report was presented by the Editor. BCom continues in the black, thanks to income from Johnson Reprint Corporation. The amount of income realized from this source over the past few years is not likely to continue, and, since subscriptions alone, at the present rate, will not keep the journal solvent, it was moved, seconded, and passed that, effective 1975, the subscription rate be increased to $3.50 for individuals and $4.00 for institutions. The Editor states that announcements of the silver anniversary of the Bulletin have appeared, or are soon to appear, in HR, BHS, PMLA, and Hispania . Professor Carroll B. Johnson, University of California, Los Angeles, was appointed Book Review Editor for the Bulletin. Professor A. Julián Valbuena, who had been selected shortly before to chair the 1974 seminar, was introduced. Professor Vern Williamsen, who ably chaired the 1973 seminar ( at which, by the way, Professors Virginia R. Craig and Richard W. Tyler completed the panel), then reported on behalf of the Research Committee, which has as its current project a Tirso bibliography similar to the two already published, on Lope and Calderón. Terms on the Committee are now limited to a maximum of five years. The present membership , with year of expiration of term of office indicated, are: Henryk Ziomek and James A. Castañeda (1975); Vern G. Williamsen and Walter Poesse (1976); Shirley B. Whitaker and Ed Hopper (1977); David H. Darst and Harold G. Jones (1978); and John G. Morton and Virginia R. Craig (1979). Professor Williamsen appealed for assistance in obtaining information on publications dealing with the comedia in eastern european and oriental languages for the annual BCom bibliography . Professor Jack H. Parker, our ( Spanish 3's) representative in the MLA Delegate Assembly, gave a brief report. Since Professor Parker's term expired in 1973, the Spanish 3 Executive Committee , minus the chairman, met immediately following the luncheon and elected Professor John Lihani to be our 40 delegrate for 1974-77. The Executive Committee also elected Professor Charlotte Stern to complete the unexpired term of Professor Sidney F. Wexler, who had recently resigned. Thus, Professor Stern becomes Secretary for 1974 and will succeed to the chairmanship of Spanish 3 in 1975. Professor Arthur M. Fox pointed out that he and other Canadian colleagues had not received the announcement of the luncheon and urged that this and other matters be handled in a more business-like fashion in the future. Respectfully submitted, JAMES A. PARR Secretary, Spanish 3, 1973 EL MENTIDERO DE COMEDIANTES A follow-up to the announcement appearing in the fall 1972 issue, concerning the 1973 "Teatro Español Del Amo" activities at California State University , Los Angeles, should have appeared in the last issue. Herewith an attempt to remedy that oversight. For Comediantes, the highlights of the summer-long series of events...
