MINUTES OF THE 1979 MEETING OF THE COMEDIANTES The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Division of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth-Century Spanish Drama was held at 5:00 P.M. December 28, 1979, at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. The meeting was followed by a«cash bar» and dinner at «La Mère Duquesne» Restaurant. The meeting was presided by Vern G. Williamsen, Chairman. All members were present: Frederick A. de Armas (Secretary), William R. Blue, Frank P. Casa, William Whitby. Also present was Edward Friedman who had just been elected to serve on the Executive Committee from 1980-1984. The Committee discussed possible projects to be undertaken, the advantages of reinstituting a Research-Bibliographical Sub-committee, and the feasibility of sponsoring two meetings at the 1980 convention. Nominees and alternates were chosen to stand for election to the Committee for the term beginning in 1981. In addition, Frederick A. de Armas was confirmed as Chairman for 1980 while William R. Blue was selected as Secretary. Those wishing to submit papers for the 1980 session in Houston should do so by April 15, 1980. Papers of 8 -10 double-spaced pages on any topic related to the Spanish comedia should be sent in duplicate for consideration to the Chairman, Frederick A. de Armas, Louisiana State University, Department of Foreign Languages, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70803. A modest increase in rates was recommended for 1981, in order that the journal may continue to be self-sustaining. Professor Parr reported that subscriptions increased in 1979 from 379 to 402. The Division meeting was held on Saturday, December 29 at 2:45 P.M. Professor Vern G. Williamsen presided. Four papers were presented: 1)«Poetry and Drama: Lope's Duquesa de Amalfi, » Matthew D. Stroud, Trinity University; 2) «Sor Juana's Los empeños de una casa: The Body Language of Honor,» Patricia Kenworthy, Vassar College; 3) «Gutierre's Witty Diagnosis in El médico de su honra,» Daniel L. Heiple, Tulane University; 4)«Chamizal's Siglo de Oro Festival: Its Past, Present, and Future,» Donald T. Dietz, Texas Tech University. The Division also arranged a second program:«Golden Age Drama at El Chamizal.» The session was presided by Donald T. Dietz (Texas Tech University) and featured exhibitions of photos, slides and videotapes of recent performances of Golden Age Spanish dramas at El Chamizal.
