MENTIDERO DE COMEDIANTES Arizona State University will host an NEH Summer Institute on Don Quixote from June 19 to July 28, 1989. Directing the institute are Jeanie R. Brink (Director, Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies) and Edward H. Friedman (ASU). The principal instructors will be Friedman and James A. Parr (University of Southern California ) , and visiting scholars will include Rolena Adorno (University of Michigan), Alan D. Deyermond (Westfield College, University of London ), Ruth El Saffar (Northwestern University), Carroll B. Johnson (University of California, Los Angeles), Howard Mancing (Purdue University ), Elias L. Rivers (State University of New York, Stony Brook), and Robert ter Horst (University of Rochester) . The institute welcomes applications from college and university faculty who wish to integrate Don Quixote into their teaching and / or research programs. Faculty in such areas as comparative literature, world literature, humanities, English and other languages, and the arts are invited to apply. Hispanists may apply for the program, but the Institute is not designed primarily for specialists in Cervantes. Lectures and discussions will be in English, and the instructors will schedule additional sessions for those interested in reading and discussing the text in Spanish. The Folger Institute Center for Shakespeare Studies announces that that its 1989 summer humanities institute, "The Problem of an Intellectual History for Shakespeare's Age," will run for seven weeks from 13 June to 28 July, 1989. The Institute is supported by a grant from the NEH.
