Abstract

Two newly developed and three existing auditory speech discrimination tests were given to a group of 35 NTID students representing the five NTID functional profiles (categories) of hearing discrimination ability.

Approximately half of the students scored zero on the CID W-22 word test and CID (CHABA) sentences and from just above chance to 100% on a newly developed numeral test. The remaining half scored 100% on the numeral test and from 0-100% on CID sentences. Scores were from 0 to approximately 90% on a new vowel/consonant test.

Results suggest that the combination of a numeral, vowel/consonant test might prove a more efficient way of delineating functional categories of hearing discrimination ability of NTID students.
