Deaf students at Catonsville Community College in Catonsville, Maryland are taking advantage of an educational program aimed at improving their reading skills. The program involves vocabulary development and structured language training. Vocabulary areas addressed include functional vocabulary, synonyms, and idioms. In a noncredit English class the students are taught basic principles of English morphology and syntax, and they are taught how to construct simple, compound, and complex sentences.
