Problems with Rewritten Materials, as Exemplified by "To Build a Fire"

Although rewritten or "simplified" materials are often used with older deaf students, this article points out the damage done to the literary quality of an original work as well as to its readability when it is rewritten. Suggestions are given for alternatives to using rewritten material.
