Abstract

The author joins St Basil the Great in pleading that we abandon the "contemplation-action' paradigm in understanding and interpreting biblical Christianity which revolves around the notion and the practice of rememberance or mindfulness (zkr). Indulging in a comparative study of the biblical and the Buddhist versions of mindfulness spirituality, he maintains that even Buddhism resists the contemplation-action paradigm. This essay is the first written version of a message the author has been transmitting orally in various parts of the world for many years in the course of teaching the practice of mindfulness-spirituality.
