RAL Special Issue on "Asian African Literatures in Africa and its Diaspora" Guest Editor: Gaurav Desai, Tulane University

Citing the long history of the presence of peoples from the Indian subcontinent in Africa, the National Museums of Kenya sponsored, in 2000, a special exhibit on the "Asian African Heritage." While the Kenyan exhibit focused on the East African context, this special issue invites contributors to engage with the rapidly growing body of literature written by Asian African writers from all regions of Africa and the islands of the Indian Ocean, as well as by writers who may be considered to be part of the Asian African diaspora. Papers on canonical writers such as M. G. Vassanji, Peter Nazareth, and Ahmed Essop are of course welcome, but the editor particularly seeks articles on more recent writers such as (and this list is not exhaustive) Ronnie Govender, Imraan Coovadia, Praba Moodley, and Jameela Siddiqi. Papers are expected to conform to standard RAL guidelines (MLA style, not to exceed 35 pages double spaced, inclusive of all notes). All submissions will be subject to normal peer review, but the editor encourages potential contributors to establish an early contact so as to help fashion an issue that is broad in its scope. Please send your submission to gaurav@tulane.edu by September 1, 2010. [End Page 246]
