Her pages 171-214 deal with exile, in narrative segments of varying ropic, fragments, like the exile self. In hei Part I, "A Dreamed Destiny ," Zambrano had moved from the arrival of the Second Republic to its defeat, omitting discussion of the wai itself. "April 14" cedes to "Toward the New World," "June 13, 1940," and "From Havana to Paris." Paît II, "Deliriums" (pp. 181 to the conclusion), suggests fragmentation in the pluial of its very title. The organic whole of before, expressed through evocation of an oiganic nation and a Republican body thinking and feeling as one, in which the self was multiple and plural only by virtue ofthat body's many component parts, yields now in the Zambrano text to short, allegorical stories of exile and others reaching back to Spain's historical and mythic past, with the interspersal of brief reflections upon the exile experience and its philosophical implications. Hei final essay brings dûs section of hei book full circle; entitled "Return to the New World," it affirms a final winning back of the sense of being in the here and now. Maier's translation renders well the lyricism of Zambrano's text. It has very few ofthe creaks and bumps which aie nearly inevitable in literary translation, particularly of a deeply metaphorical text. Furthermore, the text is clean, almost free of typos and word omissions. The glossary of terms pertaining to Spanish place names, figures, and institutions will be helpful to die non-Hispanist. I was sutprised not to find a bibliography of selected studies of Zambrano; it would have been a useful addition to the text. The book also lacks an index. Delirium and Destiny is by nature an interdisciplinary work, existing in the inteisections among philosophy, ideology, and literature. Este gran esfuerzo de transcripción y edición se debe, principalmente, a k historiadora mexicana Ethelia Ruiz Mediano. La editora preparó uno de los estudios preliminares y realizó el trabajo paleográfico del denso manuscrito de 634 folios contando con la colaboración de José Mariano Leyva. La presente edición de la Relación tiene dos partes principales: k que reúne los textos escritos pot los estudiosos de Zorita y la que transcribe el manuscrito corregido y anotado por el autor. H libro se inicia con la Piesentación de Hanns J. Prem de la Universidad de Bonn, lo sigue un estudio de la doctora Wiebke Ahrndt, un análisis de la doctora Ethelia Ruiz y los "Criterios de transcripción." Al final de la obra encontramos la BibliografÃ-a de las fuentes citadas por Alonso de Zorita, compilada por W Ahrndt y el Ã-ndice Onomástico. La obra de Zorita propiamente dicha fue organizada por el autor y sigue este orden: la Dedicatoria, Al lector, Catálogo de los autores que han escrito historias de Yndias o tratado algo de ellas, Sumario de los capÃ-tulos que se contienen en esta Relación, Primera parte, Segunda parte, Segunda parte de la segunda y principal, Tercera parte y, finalmente, Cuarta parte. La doctora Ahrndt, miembro del grupo de k Universidad de Bonn, se unió al grupo editor por gestiones del INAH mexicano. Ella es la autora de "Alonso de Zorita: un funcionario colonial de la Corona española." Esta contribución es repetitiva, y presenta la información en un estilo poco ágil. Me preocupa...
