Abstract
Sanctity does not require institutional sanction; it can emerge spontaneously through an unreciprocated giving of the self. Frank O'Hara's colloquial love poetry and Ramon Llull's mystical Book of the Beloved, when read against Bataille and Badiou, provide an illustration of this truism as they enact their dramas of secular sanctity.
