Furthermore, a critic should not, at this date, dismiss Flecker as an influence. Munro, in rightly noting that "as long as careful literary craftsmanship is respected" Flecker's "work will never be entirely forgotten ," states that "much of his writing seems hardly relevant to our times" (p. 115). This is doubtful. Such themes of his as the dangers of dictatorship and the value of intense relationships between men, match present concerns. Flecker was indisputably a minor writer, but he deserves to be treated "with more sympathy and with greater seriousness" (preface) than Munro affords him.
