than Pater specialists like myself, this, of course, is the readership for which I designed Walter Pater's Art of Autobiography. I suppose my ultimate sense of what to reply to-Îhose who either do not like "the fashionable critical vocabulary" or have been in Peru for the last decade is that there is a decent study of Pater in the Twayne series that I can always recommend with confidence.
