ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. The Winthrop Symposium on Major Writers, 7-9 April 1983: The topic will be William Butler Yeats: Poet, Playwright, Folklorist, Critic, Visionary, and Public Figure. The Symposium will be held at Winthrop College, General Chair, Jack W. Weaver. 2. Bloomsbury Studies: A series of publications entitled Bloomsbury Studies has been established under the general editorship of S. P. Rosenbaum by the University of Toronto Press. Included in the series and already published are a collection of accounts of the Bloomsbury Group, an edition of the manuscrips of The Waves, and a collection of essays on John Maynard Keynes. A centenary collection of essays on E. M. Forster has just appeared and is reviewed in this number of ELT. Forthcoming shortly will be an edition of manuscripts of To the Lighthouse. Bloomsbury Studies invites the submission of book-length manuscripts on the work and significance of the Group or its members and on the work of those closely associated with the Group. The meeting has been moved from October to 1-3 July 1983. 4. Thomas Hardy Society of America: The Society is open to all interested parties and seeks new members who will receive a copy of the newsletter gratis. Western Humor and Irony Membership (WHIM): The second biennial conference on linguistic humor will be held at the Phoenix Hilton Hotel from 31 March to 2 April 1983. The theme of the conference is Far-Fetched Figures: The Humor of Linguistic Deviance. The last conference was a solid success with 400 scholars on the program and 1,000 persons attending. 6. LITIR (Literary Information Retrieval): With the publication of five volumes of its Annual Bibliography of Victorian Studies and a Cumulative Bibliography of Victorian Studies: 1976-1980, LITIR has accomplished part of its projected goal. LITIR's current active computer file consists of approximately 15,000 entries of books and articles published from 1976 to 1982. Almost an equal number of entries covering the publications from 1970 to 1975 will be added to the file by July 1983. The printed version of LITIR's computerized information is published as Annual Bibliography of Victorian Studies, each volume consisting of approximately 500 pages (two columns per page) and a comprehensive keyword subject index. The Cumulative Bibliography, with some 14,000 entries classified into seven broad sections and more than one hundred sub-sections, is available to individuals at only $44, a savings since the regular price is $110. Victorian scholars as well as publishers and organizations are requested to send to LITIR information on projects, books, articles, conferences, et cetera, that may be of interest.
