Abstract
In illustration of the politics of conscience, David Lloyd George risked power, prestige, and wealth by opposing the Boer War. By speaking against the war in Birmingham, political home of Joseph Chamberlain—whose war it was—Lloyd George also risked his life. It was his courage in Birmingham that made Lloyd George's political career.
