Abstract
A marked change in Einstein's attitude towards the quantum theory, to which he had contributed so much, occured soon after the world-wide acclaim accorded his General Theory of Relativity when the 1919 eclipse observations confirmed his predictions on the deflection of starlight by the sun. His own efforts were then directed almost exclusively to extending the General Theory to a more comprehensive Unified Field Theory.
