One of the most essential human activities is the creation and performance of music. Popular music in Greece has often been lauded for its diversity and abundance and its performers are often portrayed as cultural icons or even national heroes. But beyond the hype the Greek popular musician is rarely asked very important questions about the role of music and his/her own role in Greek culture. The thoughts and opinions of a number of Greek popular musicians on these matters provides other perspectives on and insight into one of the world's most familiar and loved professions.
