Join Us in Ethiopia, June 2010

The CALLALOO Retreat/Conference Group, a collective of African Diaspora academics and creative writers, will hold its 2010 conference June 13–18 at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. This year’s focus is “(Black) Movements: Poetics and Praxis.” If you elect to attend this international Conference but decide not to attend all sessions of the conference, you might want to take advantage of the organized tours of the city and nearby areas of Addis Ababa. We will spend a second week in the country devoted to a major tour of ancient and contemporary sites in Northern Ethiopia, including ancient rock-hewn churches (see image above), Lake Tana, the Semien Mountains, and such cities as Gondor, the center of the Ethiopian castles and renaissance; Axum, the birth site of Ethiopian civilization; and Lalibela—all of which are World Heritage Sites registered by UNESCO. If you are interested in joining us, go to our website ( http://callaloo.tamu.edu ), email us callaloo@tamu.edu, or telephone us at 979.458.3108 for further information. For other upcoming Callaloo events, see our website.
