ii THE EDITOR'S FENCE 1. Eleventh ELT Conference, KLA, Chicago, I967: Criticism (I88O1920 ~ΠFor the purpose of our discussions, criticism is to be understood in the broadest possible sense. We hope those who plan to attend the Conference will have read or re-read some of the major critics of the period (e. g., Pater, Moore, Wilde, Gosse, Symons, Symonds, "Vernon Lee," George Saintsbury, C. K. Chesterton, and perhaps others). We shall be able to consider papers for publication in the Conference number of ELT until about the end of October . Anyone wishing to attend the Conference should write to Helmut E. Gerber, Department of English, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana (4-7907). Admission will be granted to the limit allowed by KLA in the order in which applications are received. 2. Out-of-print, In-Prlnt, Reprint: ELT is now out of print in its original form through Volume VIII (I965). We can still supply the six numbers that make up Volume IX (I966), at $0.50 each; however, our stock is already very low. Volumes I (1957/58) through IV (I96I) have been reprinted by Kraus Reprint Corp.; Volumes V (1962) through VII (1964) are available from this firm this Fall; Volumes VIII (I965) through IX (I966) will be reprinted by Kraus in the near future. Since we print only a small stock for back orders, it is best for subscribers to renew as promptly as possible. We ordinarily send renewal notices with the last number of each volume and again with the first number of the new volume. If subscribers do not renew before publication of the second number (between Karch and May), we cancel the subscription. We regret that some subscribers have inadvertently allowed their subscriptions to lapse and that in some instances we have not been able to supply back numbers when they became aware of their oversight . However, we must adhere strictly to our advance payment policy—this is one rigid policy that has helped ELT remain independent , self-supporting, and in the black. This policy has also helped us keep our rates low. We like these circumstances. ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. ELT Anthologies; We call your attention to the notice on our back cover of the publication of three anthologies in the ELT period . A collection of criticism is also planned. 2. Lionel Stevenson Supplements Baker's History: Ernest E. Baker's History of the English Novel has long been a basic reference work. The tenth volume, however, was published as long ago as 1939. It is welcome news to hear that Professor Stevenson has prepared an eleventh volume, "Yesterday and After." Shortly to be published by Barnes and Noble, this volume will begin with H. G. Wells and include writers omitted by Baker in the tenth volume. ...
