GORDAN November 11, I907 - March 10, I968 Author of a fine book on Joseph Conrad, organizer of some thirtyfive exhibitions of materials in the Berg Collection of the New York Public Library, compiler of the superb catalogues for these exhibitions, and since 1939 the brilliant Chief of the Berg Collection , John D. Gordan died on March 10, I968, of a heart attack. His last contribution to the world of scholarship was the catalogue for an outstanding exhibition, "Arnold Bennett: the Centenary of his Birth." Perhaps his greatest contributions were the unsigned ones, those he made as silent partner in nearly every book, edited or written by others, that made use of Berg materials. His personal signature will remain deeply etched on the Berg Collection. ...
