Correspondence To the Editor: Cheryl B, Torsney in the recent Winter, 1981, issue of the Henry James Review has linked Prince Amerigo to the Borglas, adding to his association with Amerigo Vespucci (invoked by F» 0« Matthiessen and Oscar Cargl 11) and to his connection with the Medici (recently argued by me, NMAL 2, 3, 1976). It may Interest the readers of the Henry James Review that there is additional confirmation of Ms. Torsney's case for the importance of the Borgia heritage and of Pope Alexander Vt in The Salden Bowl. There has come Into my possession Henry James's copy of Charles Yr I artes's Cesar Borgia; (Sa Vie, Sa Captivité, Sa Mort) In two volumes (Paris: J. Rothschild, 1889), signed "Henry James" on the Inner title page. The books are bound in red half morocco by H. Wood; the pages have been cut in both volumes, which show signs of having been read. The books were In the possession of a collector who bought them shortly after James's library was dispersed in the 1930s. There is much material In them about Cesar's father, Pope Alexander Vl. In James's library were also F. Gregorovlus's Lucrezla Borgia (In Italian; Flrenze, 1885) and Jakob Burckhardt's The Civilization of the Period of the Renaissance In Italy (tr. S. G. R.
