Prologue

Present Time: Wandering and Chasing Each Other

Music—sexy, a flash of tattoos.

KASPER in the foreground praying—with the four women in his life behind him. Their backs are to the audience, they wear short retro black hotpants.

KASPER runs his finger along the tattoos on his body . . . women’s names. As he names them, the corresponding woman grinds. A dance of asses. In the shadows. No faces. Flash of tattoos on his body . . .

KASPER Maria . . . Jolene . . . Patricia . . . Kymmie . . .

KYMMIE does the biggest grind of all, as the music swells and JOLENE moves away from the women and into her own space—a girl at pay phone.

KASPER speaks; JOLENE translates underneath. [End Page 474]

KASPER (in the clear) Estoy buscando, estaba buscando, estuvi buscando.

JOLENE (in the clear) I am looking. I have been looking. I looked.

KASPER Cuando voy a encontrar lo, lo que es . . . es que me falta, mi familia.

JOLENE (simultaneous with KASPER’s next lines) When am I going to find my family? . . . my other self.

KASPER Que esta adentro de mi, adentro de mi corazon quien vive? La mujer que hizo el hombre de mi, el hombre que cree en las mujeres. Mi otro yo, que no.

JOLENE (simultaneous with KASPER’s next lines) Please. Bless me with a kiss from the little angel of my dreams.

KASPER El otro lado de mi, Mama. Por favor me bendiga con un beso de mi angela bella. . .

KASPER (continued, in the clear) La angelita de mis suenos.

KASPER and JOLENE look at each other across the other women.

Blackout.
